Welcome to the Notgrove Estate Blog – This is where we talk about places to visit, news, events and things going on in the Cotswolds as well as on the Farm. Sometimes we talk about one of our favourite subjects…. cake!

May has very nearly arrived so lets take a look at what will keep us all occupied in this fifth month…

What is great about May I hear you ask…. Well it has two bank holidays which  is always a winner and the weather starts to tempt us into summer ( said with such optimism and enthusiasm ha ha ha ha).

We are so lucky being based where we are as we are surrounded by some wonderful attractions appealing to all ages with all interests.

Sudeley Castle are not letting us down for May Day. Hosting a Victorian themed day where you will meet Queen Victoria herself . You will be able to watch a traditional chimney sweep act, Punch and Judy show and of course they have got the ‘May Pole’ out for a touch of ‘May Pole Dancing’ Perfect!

The Cotswolds wouldn’t be the Cotswolds without its quirky little traditions. This month it’s a busy month for the ‘ wacky ones’ among us. Starting off with  The Dragon Boat Regatta at Gloucester’s Historic Docks. The water will be filled with colorful imaginative boats ready for racing. On the side lines there are live bands, fun fair rides and lots of fresh food stalls with a Farmers Market to top it all off. A great day filled with entertainment for all of the family. If that isn’t diverse enough for you on May the 30th you can go and watch adrenaline junkies throwing themselves down ‘Coopers Hill‘ to chase after a giant lump of cheese! If cheese isn’t what you are after how about heading over to Tetbury (a beautiful town) to watch the fittest of the fit competing in their ‘Wool Sack Race‘, what more can I say?

If you are interested in antiques then you must head along to Tewkesbury Abbey as the ‘Antiques Roadshow‘ are staging their show there on the 12th May. The Abbey is stunning and it will be an interesting day.

Having lived in the Cotswolds all of my life I have seen the start of a truly amazing , legendary show. This month we are all excited as it’s the start of its annual tour, kicking off at Sudeley Castle. Yes I am talking about the amazingly unique Giffords Circus. This year they bring to us ‘The Painted Wagon’ starting on the 19th of may to the 31st before they move on to another local venue at Daylesford Organic Farm in Kingham. It seriously is not to be missed , the music will get your feet tapping and legs stomping taking you back to your inner child. Its charming, romantic and nostalgic and fills me with lots of happiness. Do book yourself a ticket!

To nourish the artistic side of you even more The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham are putting on some amazing performances this month. It would be a wonderful way to spend your evening soaking up some culture perhaps after a supper from one of the many delicious restaurants that the town has to offer. They really are treating us with ‘The Birmingham Royal Ballet’, ‘Anything Goes’ and ‘Into The Breath’ to name a few.

So as you can see there really is quite a wide range of entertainment going on through May. Not forgetting that The Cotswold Farm Park, Birdland, WWT Slimbridge and The Chedworth Roman Villa are all putting on extra activities for half term. All of them are always a great pleasure to visit whatever time of year.

Where ever you end up heading do enjoy and please be careful if chasing after the cheese takes your fancy!
