Alexandra’s Art Course at Notgrove Holidays is designed to introduce you to and develop your skills in recording your observations through drawing and painting en plein air, enhance your wellbeing and appreciation of the world around us. All of the course is tailored for both the beginner and experienced artist. Alexandra will encourage and guide you through the course, inspiring confidence to have a go and achieve in a fun and friendly setting, taking inspiration from the stunning Cotswold scenery in private areas of the Notgrove estate.
Our two day art course is suitable for all abilities and includes:

Alexandra’s Art Retreat at Notgrove Holidays is designed to introduce you to and develop your skills in recording your observations through drawing and painting en plein air, enhance your wellbeing and appreciation of the world around us. All of the activities are tailored for both the beginner and experienced artist. Alexandra will encourage and guide you through the activities, inspiring confidence to have a go and achieve in a fun and friendly setting, taking inspiration from the stunning Cotswold scenery at Notgrove.
Set on the idyllic 1,500 acre private Notgrove Estate in the beautiful Cotswold countryside, it’s the perfect place to observe the beauty of our world and develop your skills in recording your observations. The Cotswold landscape offers so many colours and shapes to enjoy, ever changing with the seasons. The Art Retreat also offers an opportunity to observe parts of the Notgrove landscape that are not open to the public.
Our three day and three night art retreat is suitable for all abilities and includes:

all to be enjoyed while staying in your own peaceful glamping pods.
Team Leader
Alexandra Woods offers over 22 years’ experience of inspiring, motivating and guiding individuals to achieve in their creative practice. Stemming from many years teaching in schools, colleges and university, Alexandra now delivers her own courses and workshops and is delighted to be offering her first residential retreat in partnership with Notgrove Holidays.
Alexandra has found much inspiration in The Cotswolds for her own art and likes to share her enjoyment of the countryside through art practice with others. Alexandra is very approachable, empathetic and always aim to identify what excites and inspires you and use this as a starting point for collaboration.
Catering
You will also be fully catered for during the retreat with breakfast, lunch and dinner served at the lovely Nuttery Café in Notgrove village during your stay.
Wholesome locally sourced nutritious food will be cooked each day by chef Darren and served at the Nuttery next to the Hub where all your classes will be taking place.

Dates
Our next art retreats will be held from Tuesday 9th to Friday 12th May 2023 and Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th September 2023.

Pricing
The all-inclusive price includes your accommodation, linen, meals as listed above, all classes, instruction and art materials.
The only extras would be drinks you order at the Nuttery Café.

Without accommodation for September 2023 £449
There is a discount of £100 pp for those who wish to share a Pod (double bed and sofa bed available in each Pod). Sadly, the retreat is not suitable for guests to bring pets with them.
What to Bring
The majority of the sessions will be outside so please bring with you warm clothing including a rain coat, suitable footwear for walking in the countryside, a water bottle and a portable stool (if you are unable to stand for a while at an easel).
For the evenings, comfortable casual clothing, personal and overnight toiletries and essentials. Each pod includes your own galley kitchen with microwave, toaster, single hob, kettle and mini fridge so you are welcome to bring a few of your own supplies such as tea, coffee, milk, snacks, fruit, etc. to enjoy between meals.

Day One – Tuesday:
3:30pm Arrive and check into your glamping Pod
4:00pm Welcome – cup of tea/coffee and cake at the Nuttery Café
4.45pm Talk on composition followed by a group walk around Notgrove
6.00pm Time to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery
7:00pm Dinner at the Nuttery Cafe
Day Two – Wednesday:
9.00am Breakfast at the Nuttery Cafe
10:00am Drawing with paint – composition studies outside
11.30am Coffee/Tea and talk on trees in the hall
12.00pm Developing composition studies outside
1:00pm Lunch at the Nuttery Cafe
2:00pm Perspective and proportions outside
4.00pm Coffee/Tea and demonstration on colour mixing in the hall
5.00pm Time to relax and enjoy Notgrove

Cancellation Policy
If we have fewer than five confirmed bookings on 1st April 2023 we will be forced to cancel the retreat and a full refund will be given. If Covid 19 Government Guidelines means we are unable to hold the retreat on 9th to 12th May 2023, we will reschedule for the next available dates.
