Sponsor a Tree at Notgrove

Here at Notgrove we are passionate about the environment and preserving the countryside and nature. With this in mind, and to support the Green Canopy initiative for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 we planted over 3,500 native trees next to Notgrove village to create a 3-hectare wood. Just as the estate did for Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838 when they planted Coronation Wood. The wood was named in the Queen’s honour and is known as Elizabeth’s Wood.

Each tree in Elizabeth’s Wood is now available to sponsor and would make a wonderful wedding gift, birthday or Christmas present.  Or you could sponsor a tree in celebration of a birth, event or achievement, or in memory of a special person.

It costs £25 to sponsor a tree which also includes:

  • Access to Elizabeth’s Wood to visit your tree
  • A personalized certificate
  • 5% discount on any bookings made with Notgrove Holidays www.notgroveholidays.com
  • Permission to add your own wooden plaque at the base of the tree for the duration of the sponsorship

For more information please read our frequently asked question (FAQs) below and our Terms and Conditions.  Otherwise, please email office@notgrove.com.

1. Why Notgrove Farms Planted Elizabeth’s Wood?

Notgrove is a 1,500 acre private estate in the heart of the Cotswolds, run by Harry and Diana Acland.  They are passionate about the environment and preserving the countryside and nature.  Your tree was planted to create a wood to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 to support her Green Canopy initiative.  On a Historical note, the estate also has Coronation Wood planted and named after Queen Victoria’s coronation in 1838.

2. Which type of trees did we plant?

The Cotswolds is a rich tapestry of indigenous trees which includes 15 types of trees including beech, oak, sycamore, alder, birch, lime, hazel and crab apple.

3. Can I choose my tree?

Your tree will be part of a new three-hectare wood of approximately 3500 trees and the trees are already planted.  If you want to put up a plaque by an individual tree to commemorate an event or person you have permission to do so but your plaque must meet our requirements.  See below regarding dedication plaques.

4. Can I visit my tree?

Elizabeth’s Wood will be open to sponsors and their guests to visit within daylight hours every day of the year.

5. Are dedication plaques allowed?

Elizabeth’s Wood has been laid out so you can enjoy walking around it.  You can put in a dedication plaque at the base of a tree.  Plaques must be made of wood on a short wooden stake so they can be put into the ground by the tree and be no bigger than 20 cm heigh x 15 cm wide (plus a short stake no more than 15 cm long) with just words engraved on it but no pictures or photos. Your sponsorship number must be on the back of the plaque.

6. Can I scatter ashes in the wood or plant flowers?

As the trees have already been planted and due to the legality of scattering ashes, sadly we are unable to permit ashes to be scattered either by the trees or anywhere in the wood.  We also want the wood to stay as natural as possible and support the wildlife so you won’t be able to leave any photos, toys, poems, cut flowers or mementos around the trees or wood either.

7. Can I plant my tree?

All the saplings were planted in spring 2022 by Charlton Abbots Forestry when they arrived to coincide with the correct time of year for tree planting.

8. How do I receive my tree certificate?

Once you have paid for your tree, we will email you with confirmation and ask which name you would like on the certificate.  Once you have confirmed the name back to us, we will create the certificate and email it to you.

9. How much does it cost to sponsor a tree and what do I get for my donation?

It costs £25 to sponsor a tree for its lifetime which also includes:

  • Access to Elizabeth’s Wood to visit your tree
  • A personalized certificate
  • 5% discount on any bookings made with Notgrove Holidays notgroveholidays.com
  • Permission to add your own wooden plaque at the base of the tree for the duration of the sponsorship
